Game 1
FLA 5 NYM 3 at FLA
Marlins take 5-0 lead to the 9th and Mets rally falls short. Carl Pavano pitches 8 strong innings to get the win. Tim Spooneybarger gets the save. Al Leiter is the starter and loser. SS Alex Gonzalez goes 2-3 with a HR and 2 runs scored. Luis Castillo drives in two
Game 2
NYM 7 FLA 6 10 innings at FLA
Mets even the series as Matt Franco pinch hits a double in the 10th to break a 6-6 tie. The Mets led 6-1 after 6 but the Fish rallied to tie it as Mike Lowell hit a 2 run HR and Jeff Conine and Juan Encarnacion hit solo HRs to make it 6-5 going to the 9th. In the bottom of the 9th, Jeff Conine singled in Lowell to tie it. Pat Mahomes (the father, not the son J) got the win in relief. Dennis Cook pitched a 1-2-3 10th for the save. Chad Fox was the loser in relief. Robin Ventura was 3-5 with a HR for the Mets. Lowell was 4-5 with a HR, 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored
Game 3
FLA 8 NYM 2 at NYM
The Marlins win easily at Shea Stadium as Mark Redman outpitches Mike Hampton. Miguel Cabrera goes 3-4 with a double, HR and 3 RBIs to lead the Fish. Lowell gets 2 more hits. Juan Pierre goes 3-4 with 2 doubles and Pudge Rodriguez goes 4-5 with 2 runs scored.
Game 4
FLA 5 NYM 1
Mets take a 1-0 lead into the 8th with Glendon Rusch cruising along. Rusch starts to tire in the 8th and Manager Raylesberg forgets to warm up a reliever in time as Rusch faces one batter too many. And that batter is Miguel Cabrera who hits a 2 run HR to put Florida ahead 2-1 after 8. In the 9th, against John Franco, Cabrera hits another 2 run HR and Encarnacion adds a solo shot to put the game out of reach. Cabrera was 4-5 with 2 doubles, 2 HRs and 4 RBIs.
