This series featured a close one, and two blow outs as the 1977 Los Angeles Dodgers won two – the close one and one of the blowouts.

Jesse Haines suffered through his worst start of the season as the Dodgers built a 4-0 lead through 5 in the opener. Steve Garvey and Johnnie B "Dusty" Baker driving in a pair of runs each.

Chick Hafey hit a two-run homer in the 7th to get the Cardinals on the board. Then in the 9th they had a run in, and the tying runner at third with two outs when Elias Sosa got pinch-hitter Wally Roettger to end the contest, 4-3

LA exploded for 16 hits in a 10-0 rout in game 2, Bill Russell leading the charge with 4 hits and 3 runs scored.

The series switched to St. Louis and the home teams liked the surroundings as the Cardinals returned the favor, taking the finale 9-1. Jim Bottomley had a three run blast and Hafey another two run shot to back a strong complete game effort by Clarence Mitchell. Tommy John took the loss.
