09 Phillies vs. 09 Reds

A matchup of teams separated by multiple generations this week.

  • Game One – Frank McCormick hits a first inning homer and the Reds chase Cole Hamels in the sixth to go on to a 6-0 win. Lee Grissom pitches five one-hit innings to earn the win for Cincinnati.
  • Game Two – Jamie Moyer swears he sees some Little League teammates in the Reds' dugout and the Phillies support the old-timer by blowing a close game open with seven runs in the seventh to win 11- 2The Phillies set an early tone by taking advantage of a wild Bucky Walters, who walks the first four Phillies as Philadelphia scores two runs without a hit in the first. Moyer goes the distance to go to 3-0.
  • Cliff Lee and Paul Derringer each pitch seven effective innings and this game goes to extra innings. Chooch Ruiz homers in the eleventh to give the Phillies the lead and Ryan Madson is able to pitch out of a one-out bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the eleventh to give the Phillies the 3-2 win.
