KOD30 World Series Game #1: "Grove discounts Loes"

Shibe Park
GAME 1
Loes vs Grove
A’s 4, Dodgers 3

Brooklyn’s manager thought he was being a genius by copying Connie Mack’s WS move back in 1929 when he started Howard Ehmke instead of his ace.  It worked like gangbusters for Mack, but came up short in the short term for Marc as the A’s drew first blood behind a complete game performance by Lefty Grove.  Brooklyn’s choice, Billy Loes (7 IP / 2 ER) was more than credible, but his relief, Bob Milliken couldn’t hold down the fort.  With the score tied 3-3 after 7 ½ innings of play the Al Simmons led off the bottom of the 8th with a double and moved to 3rd on Hale’s single.  Joe Hauser hit a fly ball to right that was deep enough to score Simmons with what would become the winning run.  Hale, Simmons and 41 year old Ty Cobb each had 2 hit days for the Mackmen, who drew first blood in the KOD30 World Series.
A’s lead series 1-0.
